196- Devotion

Devotion means that one must sanctify the name of the Creator in public, meaning if the public forces him to commit a transgression that is regarded as “Be killed but do not transgress,” meaning if the aim of the public is to be idol-worshippers, then even on shoelaces applies the matter of “Be killed but do not transgress.”

In the work, man’s desires are called “general public.” If the desires are of idol-worshippers, this is called “idol-worshipping general public,” who want him to idol-worship. At that time, it is forbidden for him to concede even the shoelaces to the will to receive, if their intention is to thereby remove him from the law of Israel.
