"A New Humanity" - Lesson 2

Moscow Congress 2006

Lesson by Rav Michael Laitman, Moscow, Russia
October 27, 2006
Lecturer: Michael Laitman, PhD

After yesterday's lesson I received a very good question. The question is that in the book Shamati we study articles about a person’s spiritual work. It is a personal work even if a person is all by himself, without a teacher, only he and the Creator. On the other hand, both Baal HaSulam in his letters, and my Rav, Rabash in his articles, write that the main thing is working in a group.

I remember the time when, for about a year or so, I was studying with Rabash and became stuck to him. During the first four or six months, I was studying with Hilel, another Baal HaSulam’s disciple who, too, was sixty-five years old. When I asked Rabash what I lacked, he said that I needed a small group of men to study with. I needed other desires, thoughts and aspirations which would be similar to mine and would support me.

At that time, I had a very little understanding of those things and thought very little about that. I am an individualist by character, and I can live alone practically without any contacts with other people. It’s the way of life I was always leading during the years of study and science career. And now I had to trouble with organizing a small group of men who would support and inspire me. I had never been inspired by anyone before. Within myself I would feel a desire, or a sudden impulse that pushed me forward, and thus I realized it.

However, he told me to do so, and it couldn’t be helped. I appealed to Berg’s Kabbalistic group. Such groups have been functioning up to now in Moscow and in other cities of Russia as well, so you know what I’m talking about. I offered my services to them in giving a Kabbalah course. After the course a greater part of the group, including about forty guys ranging from 25-30 years old, left Berg and passed to Rabash. Since then, my relations have been strained with Berg’s organization.

And I had no idea of what purpose I was doing all this for. Rav said that I needed a group, so be it. After the group was formed, I asked Rav what I should do with it next. He wanted to tell me, but I asked him to write it down. So, he began to write notes about the subjects of our weekly talks. Later those notes were transformed into weekly articles called Shlavey Hasulam (Steps of the Ladder) . They composed five volumes in Hebrew, part of which were translated into Russian. Then gradually I began to understand that though Kabbalah speaks about man’s individual work and nothing is said about a group, it is implied anyway that a man is in a group and, while being in it, he seeks connection with the Creator.

And so yesterday, I received the following question:

"You talk about personal work with the Creator. I’m working directly with the Creator; I want to approach Him, to perceive Him, to give to Him, and to receive from Him. I agree with all the terms. As to group work and dissemination, I have no idea for what purpose we need that. Why do you impose such a thing on us? Again like socialism? Like these odd relationships between people, acting as children in a kindergarten, and simulating love to each other as if we are stupid or something? Why do we need all that? If you tell us that we must do certain exercises before we get something else, then we’ll do them. But how can we see the necessity of working for the Creator in a group if this work is so individual, as described in the article There is None Else Beside Him which we studied yesterday?

There is one more question. You say that Russia failed in its attempt to form a good and kind society because there was no Creator in those actions. Where is the connection between all those things and why is such a connection necessary?

I would answer all these questions as they are all correct. They emerge constantly within a person until he reveals the system of Adam as one collective soul, and attains the smallest perception of the whole and integral picture, all the elements of which are connected with each other. Here we have an odd triangle: firstly it is a person’s individual work with regard to the Creator, secondly it is work with regard to a group, and thirdly it is work with regard to a person, to a group and to the Creator. It is very difficult to combine all that.

We should always look from the perspective of the beginning, meaning from the beginning of creation according to the law Sof Maase be Machsheva Tchila (The end of an action is in its beginning). When something is unclear one should go to the end and to the beginning. Then a person should compare these two states to one another, and from them define and examine the intermediate state he is in, and why his state should be defined in such a way.

From the very beginning that single Force of Nature called the “Creator” or just “General Nature,” the Upper Force or the Upper Light stipulates that He has to bring creation to the complete equivalence of forms with Himself, to make it equal to Himself, or create another copy of Himself. This is the Thought of Creation. We cannot understand anything beyond that Thought; we cannot understand for what purpose, why and in whom it emerged and what that Thought itself is.

We’ll examine all these things later. They are not simple, and we need even finer senses and inner ability to categorize various definitions and perceptions which we’ll achieve. We’ll clarify all this and stop being confused. We’ll not only examine these things, but we’ll perceive the essence of the Force, His thought, His intention and then the beginning of His realization. We don’t concern all these things at this moment. We’re talking only about the fact there exists the Upper Force and His thought, which is to make a copy of Himself, to make creation similar to Himself.

We talked about how everything is arranged on the same principle as a holographic picture. It means that the slightest action ever occurred comes from that Force which brings the creation from His thought to similarity with Him; and, everything is governed by that Force. At a certain stage, the creation is given the freedom of will for him to attain similarity with the Creator in perception, in comprehension and in freedom over everything including the Creator Himself.

The task here is solving the paradox that if there are two, a person and the Creator, then who is the owner and who is the servant? If a person has freedom of choice then his freedom of choice is to revoke the Creator. However, on the other hand, if the Creator is all-mighty and all-embracing then how can he create anything with freedom of choice detached from Him? It is like the question: “Can the Creator create the stone that He Himself cannot lift?” How should a person solve all those questions that arise in him? To solve them, we need to go from the perspective that every act in the whole of the Universe from the beginning to the end comes from one single Force, and a person should always connect himself with It. All that determines a person’s every present state comes from that Force.

According to the principle of a holographic picture, every little act of a person is absolutely whole and complete, meaning it contains within it ten Sefirot. Each event and each state always consist of ten Sefirot, no more and no less. Every event includes within it the beginning, the middle and the end on a mini scale.

In every state one has to include in himself:

That is the Kli (vessel) which is called “a soul.” From the very beginning the soul was broken and small egoistic souls were created; then restoring themselves, in connections between them, they realize the whole thought, the thought of Creation.

All that had been planned by the Upper One long before we were created and reached our current state. Like a child, a person doesn’t understand yet why acting in such a way, he achieves the result when he is absolutely independent and equal in power to the Creator, capable even to revoke Him completely; and, at the same time He, too, is absolutely independent and equal in power to a person, and can revoke him. This is the way they exist determining and even denying one another; and, all this is realized only between the souls in that collective soul.

We cannot avoid the picture we exist in: the group which is a mini image of the egoistically broken collective soul; the thought of the Creator who constantly creates different circumstances in the group; and a person who is intended to examine and correct those circumstances, and thus every moment he maximally approaches the final goal as much as he is able to understand and realize it that very moment.

All the individual work that we study in letters, in articles Shamati, or in other works implies that a person perceives everything as a connection with the Creator proceeding from his work in a group. If a person tries to move to the Creator individually, like a hermit, he will not find any correct definition or any correct connection with Him.

Baal HaSulam and Rabash describe one’s personal experience or what one has to feel within himself, how to analyze the feelings, how to settle accounts with the Creator and with himself. Though they do not indicate that a person has to work in a group, it is implied that all is felt in correction, meaning in one’s attempts to correct his relations with the others. Only there breaking of the collective soul occurred; and, only through this correction and through restoration of connections with the others one can reveal the Creator, since the Creator is revealed as a result of correction of interactions between a person and his friends in a group. Nothing is more important than to restore and strengthen these connections.

Once a few men who were quite wealthy and who had a desire to perceive the Creator invited me to spend seven or ten days’ vacation with them in order to push them upwards. When I came to their place, I gave them a simple condition during our first conversation. I told them that they had to create a group--five or six men were enough. Baal HaSulam, too, had a group of five or six serious disciples, and all of them became Kabbalists who attained the Upper World. The result was that one of the men corrupted everything and nothing came out of that group. Perhaps the others, too, didn’t understand that they needed to create a group.

Nothing will help. A person may have a personal teacher, personal Rav or a personal coach like big sportsmen have. He may have all possible conditions, but he won’t have the scheme he could base on to reveal the Upper Forces. The Upper Forces are revealed only in our anti-egoistic aspiration toward each other. To the extent we try to create anti-egoistic attitude toward each other, we’ll suddenly begin to reveal new relationships, new forces and new sensations in these efforts. We attain the sensation of the Upper World in combination of these new forces.

In principle we ourselves are like a screen of a computer on which different vectors create a certain picture. We interpret it in that way, but actually there isn’t any picture. Only different vectors and different forces are operating there giving different colors, brightness, contrast, etc., and we see that as a picture.

We have the same in our relationships with others when we are like that screen on anti-egoistic or altruistic relations between us. Depending on these forces, on how we can express them and cultivate them above our egoism, the spiritual picture will emerge to us. Since our egoism consists of five egoistic layers, each time we ascend above a certain layer of egoism and create new connections between ourselves, we’ll sense a new picture called a new world. Thus we’ll ascend upwards beginning from the lowest anti-egoistic world Assiya to Yetzira, Beria, Atzilut, Adam Kadmon and the World of Infinity. This is the way we work.

Therefore, if a person doesn’t begin to genuinely think about spirituality within his connection with others it means that he doesn’t think about spirituality at all. Because there is a person; there is the means where the final goal of merging with the Creator and attaining similarity with Him is realized; and, there is the final state of adhesion, similarity, eternity and perfection which a person attains. That very means is the model of the broken soul which we have to create. Therefore, a person, a group and the Creator who isn’t revealed outside this group but only inside that scheme are the necessary conditions.

We may study any articles that don’t talk about a group but only about inner personal sensations, all of them certainly imply that we sense all that in altruistic connections between us and the rest of the group, because there is no other place we can sense that in. What the Creator created – that single creation, then broke it into pieces and each particle feels itself separated. If he wishes to sense the World of Infinity then the World of Infinity is between those particles, connected with each other up to Infinity, endlessness and perfection.

What did the Creator do? He created egoism in us; He broke us and separated us from one another; and we must put above that egoism our power of reunification which is called faith above reason, or Lishma. We must connect with each other above our egoism, regardless of it, and then we attain connection with the Creator and become similar, free and equal to Him. Thus the whole freedom of choice, the whole connection, the whole correction – everything is realized only in that one single collective vessel.

Question (cont'd): What was the error Russia committed? Today we’ll be recovering good relations between us, and then another day, we’ll be explaining to people that we need to attain something spiritual and the Creator.

No. Unfortunately, that won’t do. We must tell each person in the world that in altruistic connection with each other, we attain not only a good animate state or some nice socialist community where each person has his own crust of bread to eat, his own place to live and all necessary social services. Beside that, a person attains perfection, eternity and spiritual state, not in respect to faith but the sensation which is above egoism. That very sensation above egoism is spiritual, eternal and perfect. As to egoism it tries to receive within itself, but the filling vanishes immediately, therefore egoism is doomed to death. Whereas transmitting to the others through oneself fills the vessel, it is sensed as a constantly growing immortal and eternal state which never disappears.

What I have to say about the connection between working in a group and working with the Creator, is that it is impossible to work with the Creator beyond one’s relations with friends. In relations with his friends, a person is required to strive for revealing the Creator. One thing cannot be separated from the other in none of our tiniest desires; otherwise, it is not aimed towards the ultimate goal. To aim towards that goal the following is needed: a person and his relations with the friends; the means which is a group; and, the goal which is the revelation of the Creator in that group. It’s like the three points: a person’s eye, a gun sight and a target, only in this case he hits the target. Here we have the same: a person; the scheme in which he realizes himself; and, the Creator whom he reveals in that scheme.

Therefore, if a person comes across a method that doesn’t propose connecting of people into a certain altruistic system in order to reveal the Upper Altruistic Force or the Creator in it, then such a method is wrong. There has to be: a group that strives for altruism; a person who strives for altruism; the Creator who is a complete altruist (but not in that hackneyed meaning which has a certain negative connotation with us). If we connect all of that in us in a correct way, then we do not err.

Only a group which realizes within itself all these principles of spiritual work discovers the spiritual force within itself, between its members. The Creator is revealed only in such a group, since we create in relations between us a vessel which is called Shechina or a vessel in which the Creator is revealed. Then the vessel is filled, and that fulfillment is called Shochen or the Creator, one who fills the vessel. This is the principle of all our work.

None of our actions, desires and impulses should be separated from that scheme: a person, a group and those who strive for revealing in it the common force to bestow or the Creator. When both—a person and a group—strive for mutual bestowal, then the common force of bestowal called the Creator is revealed between them. We try to act this way, and we reveal Him in our efforts. There is nothing else beside that.

Question: This question concerns the article There is None Else Beside Him. If a person is in a state of downfall how can he avoid sensing himself a righteous man as compared with the others?

How a person who is in a state of downfall can get out of it and begin to justify the Creator? How can he justify his worst state when there is only complete darkness, when he is unable to comprehend anything, to hallow anything, when he is completely detached from all that happens around him, when he is practically dead, with only a tiny spark of life barely existing in him so that he can hardly move? How in such a state can he justify the Creator when there is nothing to justify Him for, since he is incapable of analyzing anything?

I would say it this way. A person goes through various states from the highest state when he is excited and is ready for anything, when he is overfilled with spiritual sensations, and that becomes everything for him to an extent that he is ready to let go of his worthless animal life. Then he begins falling. Moreover, when he falls, he feels good. It’s like a person who tries to fall from the tenth floor with or without a parachute. What is the difference? The fall itself is good because it is not sensed as collision with the lower state, it is like hovering. When a person is falling from his spiritual state, he doesn’t feel that he is falling.

Later on a person begins feeling all that. He begins feeling that when he acquires the habit to work with an effort, to push himself forward anti-egoistically. As soon as he is weakened in his efforts, he immediately feels that he is falling, and again he has to dispose himself to pushing forward. That state comes to him afterwards when he feels beforehand that he may begin falling. Now he can control himself and constantly keep himself in the tension of progress. It is not physical tension, but it is constant aspiration for new movements in which he can approve himself when connected with the others and in revealing the Creator. He immediately begins to fall if that tendency disappears in him.

At the beginning of his way, a person doesn’t usually feel the fall, he feels himself in some euphoria. However, when he falls, he suddenly feels that - “bang”, everything is dark and there is nothing interesting, nothing good, nothing revival or exciting. So, what is he to do? If he has reached the lowest point he cannot do anything with himself. As it is said, Ein Asir ve Atsil be Atsmo mi Beit Asirim (A prisoner cannot release himself out of a prison). For that purpose he needs friends who will pull him out of there, those who are free, meaning they are in contact with the Upper Force; those who can impart that Force through themselves, connect it with those who are inside the prison, those who are in that low state.

Why can friends do that? Because a person is connected with them, and he has been working with them. Now the Creator added egoism to him, and he fell. He couldn’t but fall, and the only thing he had to do is to resist that. If he resisted and created his relations with his friends, he prepared in advance the supporting system regardless of his feeling that he was just about to fall.

We act in the same way. We understand that we will get old, weak and sick. Therefore, we create food supplies both public and in private, keep savings in sick-funds, mutual aid funds and banks. We save all we can for a rainy day. This is the way we live and act. Animals do nothing of that kind, or rather they do but only by instinct, while we act consciously.

In the spiritual world, a person should act in a similar way. He should create, in advance, an environment around him, since he knows his every step forward occurs in the following way: first he falls then he strives forward, and again he falls and then strives forward. As it is said, “Any person will sin the number of times that he becomes righteous”. Each stage upward includes its first part when a person falls to the “minus” of that stage, and then he ascends to the “plus” of it. So, it is always this way: minus one, plus one; minus two, plus two; minus three, plus three; and therefore, minus 125, plus 125.

Now you can imagine what falls are yet to come. As mentioned earlier all those falls and raises occur only in relations between us and our collective soul. Only there should we store up forces that will help us. Why should we store them up? In this world we have fear for our future, we understand that we can get sick and nobody will help us, that something might happen and there will be nothing to eat, so we need everything required.

What occurs in a spiritual state? Where is it determined that a person has to prepare himself in such a way in advance? He prepares all that in advance in his relations with his friends, through generously helping them. To the extent he invests (efforts) into them, he uses all those saving-banks, stores and bins that exist precisely in relations between them. Therefore, when he falls, he falls into the system which he prepared in advance. They don’t owe him anything, they are not obliged to do him any favors, and he mustn’t demand anything from them. He uses the system that he himself built up.

They can be as nice to him as possible, but he will not actually get the support he needs from them. They may come to him and try to bring him to the lesson, they may suggest doing something together, but he won’t react. He will ask them to leave him alone saying that he isn’t feeling well, etc. He will reject their help, since he hasn’t invested his efforts into them in advance in order to help them when they feel bad, in order to strive for connection with them.

We see that sort of examples time and again. A person who invests into connection with his friends automatically gets support from them when he falls. A person who doesn’t invest his efforts into connection with his friends, who doesn’t observe all conditions and doesn’t do all efforts in order to reach the Creator, falls and doesn’t receive support from anyone and has to wait for the time when the next Reshimot awaken in him, and gradually he begins rising and reviving. However, it is the Creator who revives him from the common program of creation according to which the whole of humanity evolves.

He falls from the speed which the group progresses with to the speed which the whole of humanity progresses with. It is measured in a few months or a few years in a group and in dozens of years with respect to humanity even nowadays. Therefore, an indispensable condition of a person’s rapid rise from any dead state is to invest himself into the connection between friends with the thought that when falling, he will get support from them. Egoistically, he acts like he is in our world, but the goal is to achieve the common altruistic system.

Question: You talked about the groups of Baal HaSulam and Rabash but at that time there wasn’t any World Kli nor any world congresses. How are we to work between friends in our modern conditions when we have the World Kli?

Our time totally differs from all the others, since, for the first time in history, Kabbalah begins to be disseminated. In earlier times it was passed from one person to another. There existed small groups which were realizing inside themselves that system.

First was the group organized by Abraham. He wasn’t only sitting in front of his tent inviting the Babylonians. He needed to do that in order to develop and achieve connection and confluence with the Creator even at his level which was already an egoistic level. He needed more people, and thus he was sitting and inviting them. He had no choice. After he revealed the idea personally (why he is called Abraham the Patriarch), he had to realize it in a group.

Later there existed all those groups: Rabbi Shimon had a group of ten people; Moses had a group of seventy Kabbalists or the so called elders who he was working with; Ari, Ramchal and other Kabbalists had their disciples too. We even have those groups’ Charters reflecting relationships they created between themselves, the way they recorded everything and the way they tried to observe the required duties concerning connections between them. There were a lot of groups like, for example, a well-known group in Kotsk, Poland.

However, none of those groups was engaged in dissemination, they all worked inside themselves. Guys who feel aspiration toward the Upper One gathered around their teacher, meaning around some General Force which made people move like electric charges and brought them to some source, to some center from which the fulfillment came. People didn’t yet sense it, but still it was fulfillment, and that made them being beside the teacher. As a result, the guys gathered, organized groups and studied, but they did it in secret, they didn’t disseminate anywhere and didn’t reveal themselves.

In our state we completely differ from all of them. First of all, people who gathered in groups at that time were the so called Yechudei Segula, and there were only few of them in each generation. Naturally, they had to study in a group, but still they existed in different atmosphere, they had different attainment and different principle (of studying). We proceed from another principle: we belong to people who have to begin total realization of the Thought of the Creator in the world. We are simply the pioneers.

We don’t refer to those individual Kabbalists who lived before us because we’ve got a “point in the heart” which awakened in completely different people who belong to different nations, nationalities or races, and we are always rushing forward. Tomorrow a few million people will get the same “point in the heart”, and the day after tomorrow billions will get it and so forth. We are only pioneers of that huge avalanche which doesn’t have to move forward as it moves as usual in this world, but it has to ascend from down upwards in order to merge with the Creator.

Therefore, in contrast to those Kabbalists, we are obliged to disseminate, widen and extend in order to hasten correct progress of the world by the path of the good or of the Light and not by the path of suffering. Without our dissemination, the world will move forward by the path of suffering, meaning of the same Light which will constantly show a person how opposite he is to that Light.

In addition to the work they did, meaning revealing the Creator in connections between them (which is the main work), we are engaged in dissemination, passing on the idea to people whose “point in the heart” hasn’t awakened yet. Why are we doing that? Because people probably have already reached the last egoistic degree, and they are suffering from drugs, depression, suicides or divorces and from whatever occurs in the world today. We explain to them the reason for their suffering, the reason which is natural and at the very beginning placed in nature by the Upper Force, and it must bring us to the end, meaning to complete equivalence with that very Force. Explaining the whole thought of Creation to people we explain to them the reason of their present state and the ways how it can be improved. Through this work we hasten the time, we advance those people to the thought of Creation, and thus we act for their good.

Besides while disseminating, we pass on the Light of the Creator to people through ourselves, through our small group in a large system of Adam ha Rishon. What does it mean that we are the pioneers? We become the collective head of Adam ha Rishon and, all in all, pass on the Light to them. All that will pass through us and, thus, we will ascend to the extent we disseminate and lift each person, even a millimeter. There cannot be another means for us to ascend. As mentioned before, a person, a group and the Creator, and that a person reveals the Creator through his connection with the group, all of that isn’t enough nowadays. It was the way groups before us existed.

In our time we do what Baal HaSulam writes: “So we have to open places for studies and to disseminate the wisdom of Kabbalah”, etc. There are a lot of statements of Baal HaSulam, Rav Kook and other Kabbalists about that. Because we don’t refer to those individuals who lived before us, we refer to the same humanity we are facing now. Only through dissemination and passing on (the Light) through us to the others can we raise and revive ourselves. We get the “point in the heart” and everyone who gets it, he gets it in order to join other “points” and to revive them.

The program has already reached the level of reviving the whole organism of Adam ha Rishon which is the whole system of souls. Until the program functioned at the zero, first, second and third levels of Aviut (thickness of egoism) up to the fourth or the final level of thickness, it developed at the individual level of thoughts through those great Kabbalists, including Baal HaSulam. However, the moment humanity’s egoistic development reached the last stage, the program which had been gradually developing was realized in Baal HaSulam, it was offered to the humanity, and we are the first to master it.

Therefore, today the realization scheme is different as it was in small groups throughout the entire history; we live in a completely different period. It’s a period when we all have to reach full correction, full connection with the Creator. Therefore, our task in dissemination and our task in exalting spiritual confluence with the Creator are the same tasks.

In addition to the first part of this lesson, a person must realize himself within a group and reveal the Creator in it. At the same time, he has to connect individually with them in order to reveal the Creator together with the group. The whole group, like a small individual, spreads itself further to the entire system or the common system of all the souls regardless of any limitations, conditions and peculiarities that exist in humanity. An individual has to see the entire system as a whole. It is his goal to reveal the Creator as the whole system, in all altruistic connections between the souls.

So, we see that there seem to be many goals: a person in regard to his friends, in regard to the Creator and in regard to humanity. We should unite all this together. We should strongly think it over and unite together until we get the whole picture of it. We should imagine it in its completed state because without that final goal, we will not be able to do a slightest private act. Without the whole picture of entire humanity being in full interrelation in that very system of Adam, in full revelation of the Creator within it and at the same time being equal to Him, identical with Him in freedom of will, in power, etc., as it was before the breaking; if in each state we don’t imagine as real as we can that final perfect and eternal states, we will not be able to do a single correct act neither in study and in work between ourselves nor in dissemination. If we do at least the smallest act with maximum consciousness, it will be really spiritual and aimed at the ultimate goal.

Therefore, the overall holistic picture is the following: for the sake of correction of entire humanity, a person works with his group in order to reveal the Creator between them, to become similar to Him in bestowal and mutual pleasure. If this goal becomes evident for a person, and he makes every effort to realize it in practice, then he begins to see it in its real form, to see real forces in it, and it is revealed to him as the system of souls and worlds.

Question: There are different groups in the world at the moment, but they are not sufficiently connected with each other as for example Russian and American groups. Is such a connection necessary? Can a group convey anything to another group?

There exist a lot of different multilingual groups in the world. Some groups are very remote from one another in mentality; some are very close though living on different continents like, for example, the Russians and ex-Russians in America. Some are absolutely remote being in very little or partial contact with us because of language barrier. To what extent can we be connected with each other?

I believe we will begin to be more connected with each other in newspaper publication, in the Internet which we should revive, and now we are trying to unite it making it similar in all languages. We see that today our friends all over the world are sitting with earphones and with translators and take part in Moscow congress together with us. These are a group in Israel, groups in Toronto, New-York and in other American cities, a large group in Europe that I was just informed about, a group in Mexico and in South America, e.g. in Santiago, etc.. So, there are a lot of groups that participate in everything together with us.

It is reasonable that specific conditions, work within a group, direct work between each other in a group is closer to a person in comparison to work between groups that are remote from each other. However, in the upshot, from work within ourselves and between us in small groups we will gradually begin to sense spiritual forces.

When for example here in Moscow while crossing theMachsom you begin to perceive the Upper World, to sense the system of interrelations between souls and the same happens somewhere in San-Francisco, then you will get connection with each other since you will become equivalent to each other, you will be aspiring toward the same goal. They will connect between themselves, and you will connect between yourselves but your attempts, your efforts and your revelations will be equal, and you will begin to sense each other through that system of souls, not through the system of bodies or different telecommunications.

Let us wait a little, and we will attain such a level of interconnection between us which is beyond our world, beyond our egoistic sensations and tools built based on these sensations, and then we will have no problems with distance. We will begin to sense each other in another system of connection between us, in the system of souls. Then we will certainly live in another system of interrelations between us.

In the meantime everyone has to work in his own group, to try as much as he can to contact with his friends whom he is constantly correlating to, and to aspire for more correction. However, mutual assistance between groups is necessary in order to go out to the world in the most effective way and inform humanity about the program of Nature, meaning general attainment of the highest state. This is the work we must do all together.

Therefore, we have to help each other nowadays. If something nice and of interest is written somewhere it should be translated and sent to the others. If somebody doesn’t get a newspaper it should be sent to the others or translated for them to publish and disseminate it in their place, etc. We have to exchange all possibilities we go out to the world with, we have to learn from each other and help each other. Interconnection between groups will occur beyond distance when there will be no distance between us, since we will be connected by spiritual forces that exist beyond distance.

Question: It is written in Shamati that a teacher passes on (knowledge) to the disciple “from mouth to ears” because the disciple is not ready. What does “from mouth to mouth” mean nowadays in regard to the question about the world group and with our today’s activity?

I will repeat the question. What does it mean to pass on knowledge and the method of spiritual perception to the disciple according to the system “ mi Peh le Awzen” and “ mi Peh le Peh” (“from mouth to ear” and “from mouth to mouth”)?

To begin with, it is said about two levels of spiritual perception. The level “from mouth to ear” is a level when a teacher who is at a certain spiritual stage and has the Masach in his spiritual Partzuf, in Peh de Rosh performs a certain act, which prepares for his disciple a small Partzuf or a small message and send it to him as to the lower Partzuf. The teacher and the disciple are beside each other however the disciple is at a lower stage. When the teacher makes a small Partzuf (like, we make some small appeal to the child) and sends it to the disciple then a connection between them appears. The teacher makes that Partzuf within himself, in Peh where the screen is located, but he conveys it to the disciple only into his altruistic Kelim (vessels of bestowal) (Galgalta ve Eynaim) called “ears” or the level of Bina because the disciple hasn’t nothing yet, he is only in Kelim de Hashpa’a (altruistic properties). It is meant that the disciple is already above the Machsom. Then the next stage comes when the disciple has the screen in his mouth (in Peh de Rosh) and can get from his teacher the Light Hochma and he can get it with the help of his screen. In other words, truly speaking, both passing “from mouth to ear” and “from mouth to mouth” mean passing from the higher one to the lower one, which is in the state of Katnut or Gadlut.

What about us? In regard to us there are also the following two states. When a disciple desires simply to hear all sorts of wisdom from his teacher, thus he gets some knowledge which actually passes through his ear and falls into his brain. However, there are states when a disciple is willing to treat his teacher like a teacher treats him. That is to say both in heart and mind, he tries to superimpose totally on what comes from a teacher completely copying him, helping him and even serving him, as Baal HaSulam writes in the article A Speech for the Completion of the Zohar.

What does serving him mean? It doesn’t mean that a teacher needs a disciple to serve him, he tries to superimpose on him as if creating his spiritual copy of himself. In this case the act from a teacher to a disciple is displayed as teaching “from mouth to mouth”. We are doing this action at our level. Nevertheless, all that rises to the spiritual level with similar screens. Now a disciple doesn’t need to be close by a teacher and serve him. He needs only a desire to copy the spiritual image of a teacher. Since he has no other model, no other example, it is what he is given. Nobody knows what it is, but it is a spiritual image. So a disciple has to penetrate through that outer peel into a teacher’s inner spiritual Partzuf. It is the desire that leads to the relations between a teacher and a disciple which are called “from mouth to mouth”.

Baal HaSulam writes that the most effective thing is to learn a teacher’s desires and try to help him in them. What desires may a teacher have? He may have a desire to see his disciples in a good spiritual state between them, in successful dissemination, in good spiritual results, in good connection between them and with respect to the entire world. It is a desire to fulfill, to realizewhat is good in his teacher’s opinion as it is said that “what is pleasant for the Creator” brings the disciple to similarity. It is natural, as we see how a child is taught by an adult. This is the simple way the system functions.

Question: With respect to what you said about new humanity yesterday, what is the policy with respect to dissemination of your books?

I talked about that yesterday, and now I am repeating that foreign groups should be disposed mostly to dissemination of Kabbalah ideas without calling it Kabbalah. Instead it may be called e.g. the ideas of connection between people, the thought of Nature’s Upper Force or the Goal of Nature.

The books I wrote in my time abound with Kabbalistic terms and different “isms,” which are undesirable to dissemination because they run across people’s prejudices. Therefore, we shouldn’t position ourselves with these books and with Kabbalah and we shouldn’t disseminate them through our groups, but through book trading network. There are very few books left. I think you should distribute them quickly leaving a small part of them in groups for newcomers. Say if in Moscow you have a group of fifty members, then leave a hundred copies of each book for those who will join you in the future. And deliver all the others to any distribution networks.

New books are distributed through “Sophia” and other publishing houses anyway. You shouldn’t disseminate yourselves. You will have to disseminate only books that will be written in the future. We are trying to begin writing books that don’t contain any references to Kabbalah but only to the methods of development of new humanity. People take that kindly, easily and calmly because it’s based on science, and it is not against their prejudices, so they can admit it. You will succeed to the extent how correctly, realistically, and wisely you will manage to prove to a man where the reason of his today’s sufferings lies and how can he avoid them. In this case you will not have to tilt at windmill. So, this is the way you should disseminate.

You should get rid of all of my black series, green series and all the earlier books through all kinds of distributing organizations. You should stop positioning yourself with Kabbalah in the outer world, but you should study it only within your groups. If you are engaged not in disseminating Kabbalah but in studying it within your small and limited group, nobody will have a grudge against you. It will look as if twenty or thirty eccentric people gather and study, and nothing more. Surely, you will have to study according to original materials anyway because books written by me or our authors contain very little and limited Upper Light, meaning they are not sufficient for attracting serious Upper Forces.

The greatest power of Light is contained in works by Baal HaSulam. When we study Baal HaSulam’s materials, both in translation or in the original, together in our large world group, when we participate together in one common lesson (we here in Israel, you in Moscow, Toronto, Saint Petersburg, New York etc.), they have the greatest spiritual and correcting influence upon us. None of my books can replace them. I cannot be compared to Baal HaSulam on any account, so don’t pay any compliments to me. I tell you and warn you that my books are good for reading as an optional reading beside the studies. You have to study according to Baal HaSulam’s original text even in translation, don’t rob yourselves.

Question: The first question concerns the idea of correction without using the word “Kabbalah.” Let us suppose that a person liked a certain article or video. What should he do next? How does he continue (his studies)? In Kabbalah everything is clear. It was said that a person should receive a screen and the Upper Light affects him etc.

The second question concerns those 99% without any “point in the heart” who are not much interested in correction of the world and these socialist ideas so to speak.

It’s very simple. What’s the problem? Have we got another method, opportunity or system with the help of which we could pass on our knowledge to humanity? In any country wherever you may be, even among the Australian aborigines (I encountered with these facts), when you begin talking about Kabbalah which comes from Israel and the Jews you will meet anti-Semitism and that will not allow a person to hear what you are telling him.

It lies inside all people’s nature all over the world since Abraham because that time nobody wished to hear about his system and his method of correction. So, this method opposed itself to the rest of humanity in all its development. Let us leave out all that we presently think about the Jews and Israel, let us think about where the root of that opposition lies. The Jews had a method of correcting egoism and existing beyond it, and the others had a method of existing within egoism.

More than a thousand years before the destruction of the Second Temple, Israel was a Kabbalistic state where every child was brought up in a correct Kabbalistic group and automatically became a person who sensed the Upper World alongside this world. We cannot imagine the state they existed in. It was a Kabbalistic group that lived in defiance of the rest of the world. There are historical chronicles that demonstrate these facts.

Even at that time the group opposed itself to the rest of the world. However, they didn’t understand what it was, and they couldn’t sense or realize that. Connections between nations were poor, and that group, that small nation separated itself from other nations. Even marriages between twelve tribes were forbidden in order to preserve individuality of each group, each part of a group, within one group and within one nation. We have to study all these things. All that lies at the heart of Nature and at the heart of forces which act in it.

Later that group fell from its spiritual level. But, that confrontation lies inside. They fell externally whereas internally that confrontation remained. As egoism grows it is felt in each person, since each person in the world has a heart and a “point in the heart” one being against the other. A “point in the heart” is associated with “anti” or with anti-Israel and there’s nothing to be done with it. All people in the world will subconsciously consider Israel to be their enemy until after many-many blows of fate egoism over-persuades itself that a “point in the heart” is given to him for his good and not for his bad.

As soon as a person in the world really becomes sure that a “point in the heart” brings him upward, that it is ready to fill him, satisfy him and bring him to eternity and perfection, then he begins to respect and love that “point in the heart”; and, in accordance with that, his attitude toward the nation of Israel alters. Therefore, at the end of humanity’s history, relationships will be totally different. Nowadays, anti-Semitism will be revealed more and more in all nations in the world as egoism grows and, as in every person, his “point in the heart” is opposed to his egoism, meaning his heart.

We have no right to blame anybody for anti-Semitism as it is the world’s natural state. It occurs not because a man is underdeveloped. On the contrary, more developed people have greater anti-Semitism. It doesn’t depend on whether a person wants that or not, it exists in him by nature. These are two forces of Nature – bestowal and reception, and they exist in each broken soul as egoism and a “point in the heart”. This doesn’t concern today’s Israel; it concerns something that exists inside a man and in his forces, something which he hates. It’s spiritual hatred. It even doesn’t relate to Israel, as people who knows nothing about Israel and who have never seen any Jews still possess that feeling.

Now tell me please what way you are going to disseminate Kabbalah (or let’s call it a method of correction of humanity or a method of bringing humanity to be good) if you present it as a method that comes from hateful and hostile elements. How can you do that? How can you begin speaking to a man and offer him all that? It’s impossible. This is why we have to understand humanity and the state it exists in. It is a natural state and, therefore, there is nothing to be blamed or thanked. This is what the Creator made us realize. Hence, we have to make all of the courses and our dissemination movement in a correct way.

We must approach a man in such a way that he will not reject us or pile it on, and he will force himself to listen to us a little. If we don’t want him to doubt and reject us, we should try to make this science really simple. What kind of science was it in Abraham’s time? Abraham was the same Babylonian who revealed the system of the Upper Nature and began to explain it to his fellow citizens. He warned them that they would suffer greatly of their egoism and offered them (his method). Some people wished to hear and some didn’t. We have to be exactly in the same state as Abraham was. We don’t have to make up anything. We have to become close to other people and offer them (this wisdom) but without the words “Israel”, “the Jews” and “Kabbalah”.

Take the book Yetzira by Abraham. Does it contain anything about those things? It is written there about the upper Partzufim, round or direct Sefirot and connection between them, but nothing is written about Israel, the Jews and even the Torah. There are no such words, there’s only Nature and its law. Abraham describes the law of the Upper World to you. I advise you to read that book in your spare time between our studies. It includes only a few pages and is translated into Russian.

You have to put yourself into Abraham’s place because nowadays we have reached the same state. What difference does it really make? Today the same Abraham, meaning your group is sitting near his tent. He has the same method in his hands only adapted to our generation. Instead of the ancient Babylonians modern humanity into which those Babylonians developed is sitting now. We have the same picture. You must call the whole of that humanity into your tent and suggest them to enjoy themselves having a drink and a snack. Meanwhile, you show your video-clips to them or offer them media which they can easily accept.

Abraham would act according to the same principle. He wouldn’t invite people to tell them something, but to treat them as travelers who were passing by his tent. We must take Abraham for a model and treat other people without hitting them straight with your ideas, but we must treat them in a correct way as if they are children.

Question: We are pioneers in using this method. Of course we are not safe against mistakes. However how can we be safe against them?

A person never knows how to progress individually, in a group or on a global scale. A child, too, doesn’t know how to progress, and what he needs to do in order to grow older. He doesn’t have any plan how at the age of four to become clever, strong, successful and advanced in all spheres. He cannot say at the age of three that he must act according to such-and-such plan. He must simply do what he is given, and what he is facing. Hence it is a very simple law: while progressing, you do everything you can and use everything you face.

As to mistakes no one is safe against them; moreover, each will surely have them both personally and in a group. One must not avoid a mistake since it is not a mistake as such. It is realization of what we are doing wrong, and how to do it in a correct way. A mistake is a necessary condition for further correct action.

Therefore, a person must treat it as a necessary condition and a desired state when he reveals his egoism, his incorrect thoughts and attitude toward others. Thankfully, he reveals all that, and now he knows what to do with that and how to rise above that. Baal HaSulam writes: “How happy I’m in the evils that reveal within me.” A man never knows whether the evil will be revealed if it hasn’t been revealed yet, and whether he will manage to correct it. However, what is revealed can surely be corrected, otherwise it wouldn’t be revealed. Therefore, one shouldn’t be afraid of mistakes, but he should move forward seriously, really and actively.

Question: You say that “Kabbalah” is an epatage word. Isn’t it a good publicity? We may waste time while promoting a new brand.

The fact is that if you appealed to people with a “point in the heart” and with evident aspiration for the Creator you would be right. You may speak bluntly about Kabbalah, Judaism and Israel because one will subconsciously feel that there is probably something in this wisdom. Despite his antipathy he will feel that there is something peculiar in that nation. However, you appeal to people whose “point in the heart” hasn’t developed yet. Therefore, you cannot show them spiritual development and where it comes from as an answer to their bad state. Nothing will come of it.

What do you tell people when coming to them? They aren’t aloof, are they? You come to them and begin to explain the method of Kabbalah, and at the same time they establish various fascists and nationalist organizations, restore the Committee for State Security and national-socialist political line. Therefore, you begin acting not only against people’s prejudices but against the national-socialist state machinery which is really coming to Nazi. Baal HaSulam writes about that. The same will occur in other countries both in Europe and America.

Therefore, we must understand in what environment we act and take that fact into consideration. We must understand that we shouldn’t fight directly against these new social or new Nazi organizations. You haven’t yet any idea of what Nazi is, but still it is evidently arising even in Europe and America. We are to understand that these states including Nazi are necessary for humanity to reveal where it is moving to. People won’t be able to rise without that.

We shouldn’t think that humanity has to fall into those states totally, including a nuclear war. It needs only to descend to those states a little, and through our dissemination it will see where it is moving to and will be able to correct itself. Don’t think that our dissemination is so little in comparison with that vast movement which occurs on Earth today. Our dissemination is different in quality which is why it is equal in measure with it. You’ll see that the bending point or differential gap point like in a differential equation, or the lowest transit point will be much higher than the lowest point of falling in egoism, in Nazi or in breaking.

Humanity will be able to finally see itself as a result of the system of dissemination which we follow. You will see that humanity will begin feeling this dissemination, but not from reading our books and newspapers or of listening or watching. It will begin feeling through the forces which we arouse in the general system of the Universe and in humanity. People will begin feeling all that inside them even without understanding where it comes from. They will begin feeling that the state their society is moving to is self-murdering.

Today they only think that they have no choice, everything is going downhill, and it cannot be stopped. When the turning point comes, they will see that it can be changed otherwise we come not to Nazi’s victory and its power over the world but to self-destruction. They will attain such a realization. All that will occur owing to our dissemination, which is absolutely smooth and without specifying the sources. We must produce and write (materials) on our own. You cannot imagine what good you are doing for your people and your country. This is precisely the desire you are always to appeal to people with.
