385- I Will Carry You on the Wings of Eagles

“And I will carry you on the wings of eagles and I will bring you to Me.”

RASHI: “‘On the wings of eagles,’ as an eagle carries its nestlings on its wings, saying, ‘Better the arrow hits me and not my sons.’”

The word Hetz [arrow] comes from the word Hatzitza [division], as was said about the verse, “Hezekiah turned his face to the wall,” so that nothing will divide between him and the wall (Berachot 5b), and also from the word Mehitza [partition].

Division means separation, which separates two things. Concerning the partition, it is explained in Baba Batra, “The partners who wanted to make a partition in the yard build the wall in the middle.”

He explains there that “Partition means ‘a wall,’ a wall that separates. And you say, ‘A wall divides,’ as it is written, ‘And it parted the congregation.’” This means that a partition means a discernment that divides something into two. Also, it is written in Psalms, “Your arrows are sharp; nations will fall under You in the heart of the King’s enemies” (45:6).

To understand all the above, it is known that the Tzimtzum [restriction] was in order to have equivalence of form. For this reason, a concealment was placed, which is called “unrevealed Providence,” by which emerges a concealment of the face of the Creator, and for which there is work in choice. It takes a lot of work for one to believe that the Creator leads the world as The Good Who Does Good, and this is considered that a wall has emerged, which separates us from the Creator, as it is written, “He is standing behind our wall.” When one prays, he should see that nothing parts, meaning he should unite himself with the Creator in equivalence of form, meaning that it will be for the sake of the Creator.

When a person is concerned with himself, he is in a state of separation. Hence, when thoughts of separation come, it is called “arrows” that kill the spirituality in man. This is called “Your arrows,” of the Creator, are “sharp,” killing the vitality of Kedusha [holiness]. All the arrows that one suffers stem only from the concealment, since the Creator concealed Himself.

It follows that the creatures slander Providence, and who caused it? The Creator Himself. This is the meaning of “He said, ‘Better the arrow hits me,’” meaning the slander being said about Him, “and not my sons,” since through the concealment He has made, there will be an opportunity and possibility that they will not be left with the arrows, meaning that they will not be in separation.

Precisely by overcoming at the time of concealment, they will come to equivalence of form. Otherwise, they will remain separated, called “partition,” or “a separating wall,” where precisely by this, “I will bring you to Me.”
