The Letters "Dalet" & "Gimel"

192) Then appeared the letter ד "Daleth" as well as the letter ג "Gimel", and put forth similar claims. The lord gave them a similar reply, saying: "It should suffice you to remain side by side together, since "THE POOR WILL NOT CEASE FROM THE LAND" (Deut., 15:2), who will thus need benevolence; for the ד "Dalet"signifies "Dalluth" (poverty) and the ג "Gimel" beneficence ("Gemul"). The ג "Gimel" practices charity with the ד "Daleth".Therefore, do not separate from one another. You must remain close together and let it suffice you that one maintains the other.

In order to explain the relationship between these two letters, it must be said that, concerning the letter ד "Daleth", it was already discussed in the treatment herein accorded the letter ש "Shin", wherein it was brought out that, even though the ד "Dalet" receives her bounty from the ג "Gimel" and the corners of the roof of the ד "Dalet" are salient with "Chessed", the light of mercy. Yet, the "Citra Acharah" still has the power to get hold of the ד "Dalet" (the "Nukvoh"), inflicting separation and also to effect subterfuge upon the ד"Dalet" by counterfitting her with the letter ר "Reish". The ד "Dalet" thereby again becomes a ר "Reish", which means that she becomes "poor" by reason of being deprived of her light, which is "Chessed" (Mercy).

This is why at this point GOD told the ג "Gimel" and the ד "Dalet"; It should suffice you to remain side by side together, that is to say: both of you are in need of extraordinary guard and preservation in order to remain together; and the ג "Gimel" retain her power to impart her light to the ד "Dalet": "FOR THE POOR WILL NOT CEASE FROM THE LAND" because the "Citra Acharah" has power, as has just been mentioned, to effect separation and also effect subterfuge to the ד "Dalet" by counterfitting her with the letter ר "Reish". The ד "Dalet" thereby again becomes a ר "Reish", which means poverty, which has overtaken her, when "Malchut", who is called "Olam" (World) becomes reduced to the letter ר "Reish", which signifies poverty.

193) The Zohar points out that the poor upon earth ere deprived of benevolence due to the ד "Dalet" turning into a ר "Reish", causing "Malchut" to become dry and unable to bestow bounty upon the needy. In such event, the poor must he helped by the awe awakening from below of man on earth through the bestowal of "Tsdokoh" by man: "CHARITY TO THE POOR."

This almsgiving on the part of man has the effect of returning the ר "Reish" back to its original status, that of the letter ד "Dalet", whereby she (the ד "Daleth") which is symbolic of "Malchut" can again receive her bounty from the ג "Gimel" and thereby can bestow again upon the needy.

Therefore, let it suffice you that one maintains the other. In other words, you, that is, both the ג "Gimel" and the ד "Dalet", must be restored to harmony. This would enable you to keep yourselves in unity in order to maintain one another. It is then that the "Klippoth" will find no access to you and will be prevented from gaining dominion over you. All this results in My declining to accept you as inetruments for use in the creation of the world.
