What Is the Middle Line?

Based on an allegory by Rabash from Steps of the Ladder, Vol. 2, Article 544

A tale is told about two people
Who wished to hold a feast.
One said he would provide everything
Except for salt, vinegar, garlic, and the rest of the spices.
And the other would provide the spices.

In the end, they were in disagreement,
So each held his feast separately.
One provided flour, fish, meat, and herring,
And the other held a feast with all of the spices.

Which of the guests in either feast could enjoy the meal?
Spices alone cannot be enjoyed.
After all, who can eat salt, garlic, onions,
Black pepper or spicy greens alone?
Likewise, who can eat meat, fish or the like with no salt?

Thus, they had no choice
But to make peace
And hold both feasts together.
And they were delicious.
