The Recipient of the Gift

From "What Is a True Grace, in the Work?" in The Rungs of the Ladder, by Rabash

We know

That when the recipient of a gift

Praises the gift that his friend gave him,

His friend enjoys it even more.

But if the recipient of the gift tells him:

"I have no need for the gift you gave me,"

His friend will surely not be pleased.

On the contrary,

The more the recipient

Feels a need for the gift,

The more the giver is pleased.

It is expressed in the measure

Of gratitude that the recipient

Gives back to the giver.

Hence, the more

We try to enjoy

The delight and the pleasure

That the Creator gave us,

The more there is contentment Above,

From the recipient’s increased pleasure.
