Daily Kabbalah Definition

Definitions in the daily Kabbalah lesson guide a precise, spiritual approach to terms, & disqualify materialized corporeal definitions

Aviut (Coarseness/Thickness)

What is the meaning of the concept "aviut" in the wisdom of Kabbalah?

The meaning of "aviut" is the degree of "size of the desire" which is measured not according to the amount of the desires but only according to its quality. To the extent that this desire feels more, understands more, attains more of its standing compared to the Light, to the extent that it feels itself opposite to the Light, to that extent the quality of the desire is determined, its aviut.

To the extent that he feels that he is opposite from the Light, then to the same extent he awakens to correct this gap, to close it, to be similar to the Light since he is no longer able to tolerate this state.  Thus the measure of the correction is against the feeling of the corruption, the feeling of the gap, the feeling of the aviut.  And to the extent that the aviut was the most difficult, so too is the feeling of the closeness, and the attaining of the connection with the Upper is greater after the correction.

Advice in the daily Kabbalah lesson is recommended, practical tasks for advancing spiritually

Renewing the Intention

If I want the end of the act to be in the spiritual world, then the thought must be now: Where do I want it ?

Each time we begin a lesson, we must rise anew. As it is written, "And in your eyes it will be as new." A person feels like a new creation according to the number of entrances of contact with work of the Creator.

Thus we must renew that same contact with it, the same intention, the same yearning for the goal, in each moment. As is said, "The end of the act is in the beginning thought." If I want the end of the act to be in the spiritual world, the thought must be now: Where do I want it? And I need to renew that thought, that intention, before each and every act, each time in an even clearer and more exact way.

In the final points are collected and connected all the tendencies, the exertions, the thoughts, the disappointments, the strengths and desires, up to completeness. It is a drop of uniqueness, in which I, the Creator, and all of my felt reality reach unity. Towards this state, I direct myself and imagine it to myself as much as I can. As much as I succeed in imagining it each time in a clearer way, in sensations and in mind, I should be happy in that I am realizing the present Reshimot (Reminiscences) and reaching the end of the act.
