272) These Merkavot<\/em> [assemblies] and holy camps are the twelve tribes that are carved above, in the Shechina. When they came down, everyone came to dwell with them, as it is written, \u201cThey came each man with his household,\u201d relating to the angels that came to dwell with the sons of Israel in Egypt. Reuben, Shimon, Levi, and all the others imply the forms of the twelve tribes in the Shechina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

273) \u201cAnd these are the names of the children of Israel, who come to Egypt with Jacob.\u201d It begins with \u201cThe sons of Israel\u201d and ends with, \u201cWith Jacob.\u201d This portion returns from the sons of Israel to Jacob, meaning the sons of Israel descended to the degree of sons of Jacob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

274) When Israel went into exile, all the souls of the tribes gathered at the Cave of Machpelah. They cried out and said, \u201cGrandfather, Grandfather!\u201d In all the labor in this world, there is nothing like the pain of the sons. \u201cYour sons are all enslaved in hard labor by others, and every vengeance in the world is inflicted upon them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

275) At that time, that spirit of the grandfather, meaning Jacob, awakened, asked permission, and descended to Egypt. He called unto the Creator, to all His Merkavot<\/em> and camps, and to their king, and the Shechina was leading them. They all came down with Jacob and with his tribes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tribes came down alive to Egypt with their father, and they also came down dead to Egypt with their father, as it is written, \u201cAnd these are the names of the children of Israel, who come to Egypt; they came each man with his household.\u201d It is also written, \u201cReuben, Shimon, Levi,\u201d who were now dead but went down to Egypt. It is written, \u201cAnd Joseph was in Egypt,\u201d since his spirit did not part with Egypt after his demise, compelling him to come back down like the rest of the tribes. Joseph, as it is written, \u201cLike as a father has compassion on his children,\u201d did not part with them even after his demise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
