{"id":10156,"date":"2025-11-29T18:38:50","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T18:38:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.kabbalah.info\/?post_type=book&#038;p=10156"},"modified":"2025-11-29T18:38:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T18:38:50","slug":"letter-no-46","status":"publish","type":"book","link":"https:\/\/www.kabbalah.info\/en\/letter-no-46\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter No. 46"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>September 3, 1927, London<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To the honorable, great&nbsp;<em>Hassid<\/em>, a treasure of wisdom:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I received your letter and I was happy to see his handwriting, which was to me a sign of his good health. Concerning what he says, that he does not consider the rav a Kabbalist, as I think, I do not know who said and who suspected that the rav is a Kabbalist, so I think that the honorable sir thinks that I long for his approval to support my words of Torah. I have already written that I want it only in order to obtain the funds to print the books because I do not have the endorsement of a renowned person who is important in this place, as I have written there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, I think that the honorable sir wishes to know more about me and to deliberate with me on that matter. In that, too, I am willing to comply, and I will reply to the best of my ability, especially since he retired from the trying that is mentioned there. For this reason, I am impartial on this matter and I am like a wise disciple who comes prior to the act, who is obeyed, and I will answer first thing first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) What he wrote, that he does not see at this time anyone who is a Kabbalist, I wonder how one can sit in a certain place and see throughout the world, and especially, to see who is a Kabbalist. And yet it is true that I, too, have not seen a genuine Kabbalist in my time, but I understand that Israel is not widowed and there is no generation without the likes of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And besides, \u201cWe did not see\u201d is not evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) What he informed me concerning a Kabbalist, as in \u201cLet a double portion of your spirit be upon me,\u201d who asked what he asked and what he replied. He explained that he asked to be a receiver and the received together, \u201cAnd this is why he replied to him, \u2018If you see that I am receiving from you now that you are receiving from me.\u2019\u201d I admit that I do not understand the brevity of his words. It is similar to one who asks his friend for a gift, and he replies to him, \u201cIf you see that I am giving you a gift, then you will have the gift.\u201d This is not an answer whatsoever, much less that it does not require a twofold requisite, as written there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3) \u201cI saw in my teachers from &#8230; and from &#8230; that they had that degree,\u201d thus far his words. In my view, there is no doubt that one cannot see any degree in one\u2019s teachers, much less if he still has not been rewarded with it himself. Our sages said about the likes of this, \u201cOne does not understand his rav before he is forty,\u201d and even in one\u2019s friend it is impossible to see that which is not in his own possession. I wanted to hear the honorable sir\u2019s opinion about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I will toy a little with his words concerning the receiver and the received as one. These words can be understood only literally, meaning that anyone who receives the abundance from the Creator boasts with the crowns of the Creator, and one who is rewarded with feeling during the act how the Creator, too, boasts about having found him ready to receive His giving is called \u201ca Kabbalist.\u201d And this is certainly a high degree, as it is written, \u201cI have found My servant, David; I have anointed him with My holy oil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the meaning of the words, \u201ca double portion,\u201d I will explain, as in \u201cLet the wise,\u201d etc. It means as it is written, \u201cHe cannot prefer the son of the loved one,\u201d etc., \u201cHe shall acknowledge him to give him a double portion.\u201d Concerning the birthright, it is known from Rabbi Ber of Mezeritch that \u201ca double portion\u201d is the mouth in which that spirit that the fathers trusted was concealed, see in the&nbsp;<em>Idra<\/em>. I will interpret it below, and from that he will understand the above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is known that there are two righteous\u2014a righteous who came into her, and a righteous who came out of her, as in \u201cAs her soul went out,\u201d for which their&nbsp;<em>Zivug<\/em>&nbsp;[coupling] stopped. It is known in the&nbsp;<em>Zivugim<\/em>&nbsp;[pl. of&nbsp;<em>Zivug<\/em>] of&nbsp;<em>ZON<\/em>&nbsp;that in the future, their&nbsp;<em>Zivug<\/em>&nbsp;will be complete, and then she will be called \u201ca double portion.\u201d This is why Elijah told him, \u201cYou ask a hard question,\u201d implying to him how far it reaches. That is, \u201cIf you see me being taken from you,\u201d taken is with a&nbsp;<em>Kubutz<\/em>&nbsp;[a punctuation mark], which means taken from you, meaning the opposite of what you thought thus far, that I was your master and you were taken from me. Rather, I am taken from you, and then \u201cIt shall be so unto you\u201d because then you will be rewarded with \u201ca double portion.\u201d This is why Elisha did not have the strength to ask him about it anymore. (It is somewhat similar to what is written about the pious man [<em>Hassid<\/em>] who considered him his rav [teacher].)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in the end he was rewarded with it, as it is written, \u201cAnd Elisha sees and he cries out, \u2018My father, my father, the vehicle of Israel and his horsemen.\u2019\u201d That is, he saw how all the lights of Israel that were included in his master, Elijah, are all drawn and ignited from him, himself. This is why he found it very difficult, as it is written, \u201ca hard question.\u201d In other words, he could not tolerate it until he cried out, \u201cMy father, my father,\u201d which is the double portion, where the bottom&nbsp;<em>ZON<\/em>&nbsp;are as the upper&nbsp;<em>AVI<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why \u201che saw him no more,\u201d since he saw only himself. He was very stressed by that; hence, \u201che held his clothes and tore them into two tears.\u201d Explanation: The lights in general, \u201cthe vehicle of Israel and his horsemen,\u201d are implied in the words \u201chis clothes,\u201d &#8230; until he was rewarded, as it is written, \u201cAnd he picked up Elijah\u2019s mantle that fell from him.\u201d This is the mantle &#8230; which until now he regarded as lowly and externality, but now he understood, picked it up to its place, and then he was indeed rewarded with a double portion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Henceforth, he had the fall of Elijah\u2019s mantle as an example for raising&nbsp;<em>MAN<\/em>. This is the meaning of the words, \u201cAnd he took &#8230; which fell from him &#8230; and said, \u2018Where is the Lord, God of Elijah, too?\u2019\u201d \u201cToo\u201d is the&nbsp;<em>Kli<\/em>&nbsp;[vessel] of&nbsp;<em>Nefesh<\/em>[soul, spirit], as it is written, \u201cAnd He breathed into his nostrils the breath [also \u201csoul\u201d] of life, and the man became a living soul.\u201d This is the fall of in between, as mentioned regarding the tearing of the clothes that became for him, as in \u201cToo &#8230; and Elisha went over.\u201d \u201cAnd they said, \u2018The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha,\u2019\u201d meaning all the degrees of Elijah, his master, were connected in Elisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By this we understand what is written in the ARI\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Assortments from the Torah<\/em>, that Elisha is an incarnation of Cain, of whom it is written, \u201cand his offering He did not accept.\u201d Indeed, Elisha consists of the letters&nbsp;<em>Eli Sha\u2019ah<\/em>[my God accepted], meaning as we said, \u201ca double portion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(the rest is missing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yehuda
