We also learn that Pharaoh brought Israel closer to repentance [in Hebrew,&nbsp;<em>Hikriv<\/em>&nbsp;means both \u201cbrought closer\u201d and \u201csacrificed\u201d]. This is why it is written, \u201cAnd Pharaoh brought closer\u201d and not \u201cAnd Pharaoh came closer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>66) It is written, \u201cO Lord, they sought You in distress; they could only whisper a prayer, Your chastening was upon them.\u201d \u201cThey sought You in distress\u201d means that Israel do not visit the Creator in times of contentment, but when they are in distress, and then they all visit Him. \u201cThey could only whisper a prayer\u201d means that they are all praying with prayers and litanies, and pour out prayers before Him. When? \u201cYour chastening before them,\u201d when the Creator visits them in His strap. Then the Creator stands over them in mercy [mercies] and welcomes their voice, to avenge their enemies, and He fills with mercy over them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>67) Israel were approaching the sea and saw the sea before them becoming stormier, its waves straightening upward. We learn from this that the people\u2019s shepherd is really the whole people.
