Who Is Rich?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>March 1962<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWho is rich? Rabbi Yossi says, \u2018Anyone who has a toilet next to his table\u2019\u201d (Shabbat 25b).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A \u201ctable\u201d means a meal. When one receives pleasure, it is regarded as a meal, that he is dining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concerning having a toilet next to the table, the toilet is a place intended for extraction of the waste within us. That person, soon after the reception of the pleasure, sorts out the part that he receives for the sake of the Creator, and what is not for the sake of the Creator, he excretes as waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He receives pleasure only in order to sustain the faith, which is regarded as \u201cthe herdsmen of Abraham\u2019s cattle.\u201d Then, he remains with his wealth because he always has vitality and pleasure, since departure is precisely when one becomes a fool and receives for himself, not for the sake of the Creator. At that time, he loses what he is given. Hence, he remains poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But when one examines oneself and ejects the waste, he remains with his wealth, meaning pleasures, and does not lose it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 1962 \u201cWho is rich?
