Great Is He Who Is Commanded and Does"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u201cHe who is commanded and does is greater than he who is not commanded and does\u201d (<em>Kidushin<\/em>&nbsp;31a). We should interpret that \u201ccommanded and does\u201d means&nbsp;<em>Lishma<\/em>&nbsp;[for Her sake], and \u201cnot commanded and does\u201d means&nbsp;<em>Lo<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Lishma<\/em>&nbsp;[not for Her sake].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because he is not working for the sake of the Creator, it means that he is not performing the&nbsp;<em>Mitzva<\/em>&nbsp;[commandment] because he has a commander commanding him to do the&nbsp;<em>Mitzva<\/em>, since the Commander does not obligate him to do. That is, the Commander is not the cause of his performing the&nbsp;<em>Mitzva<\/em>, but rather the&nbsp;<em>Lo Lishma<\/em>&nbsp;is the cause. It follows that he has no commander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, one whose cause to perform the commandment is the Commander, meaning the Creator, is certainly greater because the&nbsp;<em>Lo<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Lishma<\/em>&nbsp;has merit in that it brings him to&nbsp;<em>Lishma<\/em>, but&nbsp;<em>Lishma<\/em>&nbsp;is certainly greater than&nbsp;<em>Lo Lishma<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cHe who is commanded and does is greater than he who is not commanded and does\u201d (Kidushin&nbsp;31a).
