Moses said, \u201cBut I received Your guarantee that You would not part from him, that thanks to the&nbsp;<em>Mitzvot<\/em>&nbsp;of first fruit, You would not mingle externality with internality. Certainly, \u2018If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.\u2019 And how then will it be known that I and my people have been favored by You?\u201d We should not ask why this verse is in the portion&nbsp;<em>Ki Tissa<\/em>&nbsp;[When You Take], since there is no \u201cbefore and after\u201d in the Torah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>558) The Creator said this thing only out of love for Israel, to reconcile with them. It is like a king who wished to go with his son and did not wish to leave him. His son came and feared asking the king to accompany him. The king spoke first and said, \u201cSo and so army commander will walk with you to keep you on the way.\u201d And then he said, \u201cBeware of him, for he is not a whole person.\u201d His son said, \u201cThen either I sit here or you walk with me and I do not part from you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So is the Creator. First, he said, \u201cBehold, I am sending an angel before you, to keep you on the way,\u201d and then he said \u201cBeware of him.\u201d At that moment, Moses said, \u201cIf Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>559) In that place, when the Creator said, \u201cBehold, I am sending an angel before you,\u201d Moses did not say a thing; he did not respond with even a word because here there was no separation from the Creator, for the angel was sent only for keeping. But there, however, it writes, \u201cI will send an angel before you and I will drive out the Canaanite, for I will not go up in your midst.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>560) When did Moses reply? When he said, \u201cI will send an angel before you,\u201d after which it is written, \u201cI will not go up in your midst.\u201d And here it writes only, \u201cFor My angel will go before you,\u201d and he does not interpret the matter, saying \u201cFor I will not go up in your midst.\u201d This is why it is written here, \u201cBut if you truly obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.\u201d Thus, everything depends on the Creator and there is no separation here. This is why Moses did not reply here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>561) And if you say that in the two verses, he is an angel in actual separation? Still, Moses did not reply to them because it was not the time. Even to the verse, \u201cAnd I will send an angel before you,\u201d after which it is written, \u201cFor I will not go up in your midst,\u201d Moses did not reply at once. Rather, when it is written, \u201cIf Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here,\u201d he replied this to what is written, \u201cMy presence will go and I will give you rest.\u201d It is so because then he could reply. In general, Moses did not want the angel, because it is written, \u201cHe said, \u2018If now I have found favor in Your eyes, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our
