It is written in Midrash Tanchuma<\/em>, \u201cAnd Jacob saw that there was grain,\u201d as the writing says, \u201cHappy is he who asks Jacob for help.\u201d Why was it not said, \u201cwho asks Abraham,\u201d or \u201casks Isaac,\u201d but rather \u201casks Jacob\u201d? It teaches that the Creator did not stand over Abraham, or over Isaac, but over Jacob, as it is written, \u201cAnd the Lord stood over him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rabbi Simon said, \u201cThe King does not stand on his field when it is sown, or when it is ploughed, or when it is being hoed. When does He stand over it? When it is ripe. Thus, Abraham hoed, as was said, \u2018Arise, walk through the land\u2019; Isaac sowed, and was said, \u2018And Isaac sowed.\u2019 He did not stand on it until Jacob came, when there was ripening of the crop, as was said, \u2018Israel are dedicated to the Lord, His first crop.\u2019 The Creator stood over him, as was said, \u2018And the Lord stood over him.\u2019 Thus, \u2018Happy is he who asks Jacob for help.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n We should ask, 1) Why is specifically Jacob called \u201ccrop\u201d? 2) What is the connection between the allegory and the lesson, that because of it we should say that the Creator stood specifically over Jacob and not over Abraham or Isaac? 3) What does it mean that the Creator stood over him?
