Behold, the Lord Has Called the Name Bezalel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>March 4, 1978<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd Moses said to the sons of Israel, \u2018Behold, the Lord has called the name Bezalel.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should understand what it means that Moses tells the people of Israel, \u201cBehold, the Lord has called the name Bezalel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is written in the&nbsp;<em>Midrash<\/em>, in the portion&nbsp;<em>Truma<\/em>, \u201cSince the Creator said to Moses, \u2018Make Me a tabernacle,\u2019 He began to ask and said, \u2018The glory of the Creator is filled with upper ones and lower ones, yet He says, \u2018Make Me a tabernacle.\u2019\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moses said about this, \u201cHe dwells in the shelter of the Most High.\u201d What is, \u201cWill abide in the shadow of the Almighty\u201d? It does not say here, \u201cin the shadow of God,\u201d \u201cin the shadow of the Merciful one,\u201d \u201cin the shadow of the Gracious one,\u201d but rather \u201cin the shadow of the Almighty,\u201d the shadow that Bezalel had made. This treatise is seemingly perplexing. How can it be said that Moses thought corporeal thoughts, since \u201cThe whole earth is full of His glory,\u201d so how will He enter the tabernacle that he has built?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, our sages said, \u201cHe constrained His&nbsp;<em>Shechina<\/em>&nbsp;[Divinity] between the curtains of the ark.\u201d Who can attribute a corporeal place?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should ask similar to what perplexed Moses: Since \u201cThe whole earth is full of His glory,\u201d yet the creatures do not feel His glory, for if they felt His glory, there would not be wicked in the world, so how can it be that through the tabernacle they will feel His glory?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Midrash<\/em>&nbsp;replies to this, \u201cWill abide in the shadow of the Almighty,\u201d meaning that the tabernacle that was made so they would feel that the&nbsp;<em>Shechina<\/em>&nbsp;is present in Israel was by the \u201cthe shadow of the Almighty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Baal HaSulam said, \u201cShadow\u201d means that precisely where there is sun, we can speak of a shadow, which we create against the sun. \u201cSun\u201d means knowing. That is, if the matter is as clear to you as the sun.\u201d \u201cShadow\u201d means faith above reason, which is against knowing. So why must there be specifically faith? Why is it forbidden to serve the Creator with knowledge? It is that He said to His world, \u201cEnough! Spread no farther.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is explained in the words of the ARI that the name&nbsp;<em>Shadai<\/em>&nbsp;[Almighty] is that when the worlds expanded, He said to his world \u201c<em>Dai<\/em>&nbsp;[enough], spread no farther.\u201d At that time, he interprets the&nbsp;<em>Yod<\/em>&#8211;<em>Dalet<\/em>&nbsp;[fourteen] discernments called \u201cfrom&nbsp;<em>Chazeh<\/em>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<em>Yetzira<\/em>&nbsp;and below, and the world of&nbsp;<em>Assiya<\/em>, where there are fourteen&nbsp;<em>Sefirot<\/em>, where it is the section of the&nbsp;<em>Klipot<\/em>&nbsp;[shells\/peels].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Klipa<\/em>&nbsp;[sing. of&nbsp;<em>Klipot<\/em>] is the quality of receiving in order to receive. Until that place, we can feel&nbsp;<em>Kedusha<\/em>&nbsp;[holiness], but in the place of the fourteen, it is impossible to feel&nbsp;<em>Kedusha<\/em>.&nbsp;<em>Yod<\/em>&#8211;<em>Dalet<\/em>&nbsp;[fourteen\/<em>Yad<\/em>&nbsp;(hand)] means vessels of reception, from the words, \u201cfor a hand attains.\u201d Reception applies in both mind and heart, since where there is knowledge, we receive in vessels of reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, we must use&nbsp;<em>Kelim<\/em>&nbsp;[vessels] of faith where there is no grip to the vessels of reception, but only vessels of bestowal. Otherwise, the light of faith cannot be present. This is why it is called \u201cby the shadow of the Almighty,\u201d meaning because&nbsp;<em>Shadai<\/em>&nbsp;[the Almighty] the shadow was made. By this, it becomes possible to feel His glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It therefore follows that the merit of the tabernacle is that we are able to feel that the&nbsp;<em>Shechina<\/em>&nbsp;is present in Israel specifically on vessels of bestowal. This is called \u201cConstrained His&nbsp;<em>Shechina<\/em>&nbsp;between the curtains of the ark.\u201d \u201cConstraining\u201d means that specifically through vessels of bestowal and vessels of faith there is the ability to feel Him.
