If You Come &#8211; 2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u201cAnd all the peoples of the earth shall see that the name of the Lord is called upon you and they shall fear you\u201d (Deuteronomy 28:10). \u201cShall see \u2026 The great Rabbi Eliezer says, \u2018These are the head&nbsp;<em>Tefillin<\/em>&nbsp;[phylacteries],\u2019\u201d and the&nbsp;<em>Tosfot<\/em>&nbsp;interpreted that since there is the majority of the name&nbsp;<em>Shadai<\/em>&nbsp;in them,&nbsp;<em>Shin<\/em>&nbsp;in the boxes and&nbsp;<em>Dalet<\/em>&nbsp;in the straps (<em>Berachot<\/em>&nbsp;4, 6a), meaning that \u201cAnd saw that the name of the Lord\u201d refers to the head&nbsp;<em>Tefillin<\/em>, where the majority of the name&nbsp;<em>Shadai<\/em>&nbsp;is visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Tosfot<\/em>&nbsp;asks a question (Shabbat [Sabbath] 28), as was said there, from what is permitted in your mouth and does not elicit straps. Also, in the&nbsp;<em>Megillah<\/em>&nbsp;(26), it calls the straps mere instruments of&nbsp;<em>Kedusha<\/em>&nbsp;[holiness], implying that the&nbsp;<em>Dalet<\/em>&nbsp;in the straps is not regarded as an integral part of the head&nbsp;<em>Tefillin<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, what is the meaning of the verse, \u201cAnd saw,\u201d which pertains to the head&nbsp;<em>Tefillin<\/em>? He also gives a reason, that it is at the height of the head and is visible, for \u201cand saw\u201d pertains to it, while the hand&nbsp;<em>Tefillin<\/em>&nbsp;are covered, as it is written, \u201cfor you,\u201d as a token on your hand and not for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should ask why the hand&nbsp;<em>Tefillin<\/em>&nbsp;should be covered and that of the head should not.
