Explaining the Discernment of Luck"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I heard on&nbsp;<em>Sivan<\/em>&nbsp;7, June 14, 1948<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLuck\u201d is something that is above reason. That is, even though it was reasonable that it would be so and so, luck caused his actions to succeed. Reason refers to cause and consequence, meaning that a cause makes the result come out as it does. But above reason, when the initial cause is not the cause of the consequence, this is called \u201cabove reason.\u201d We refer to it as luck causing the result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is known that all bestowals come from the light of&nbsp;<em>Hochma<\/em>&nbsp;[wisdom]. And when&nbsp;<em>Hochma<\/em>&nbsp;shines, it is called \u201cleft line\u201d and \u201cdarkness.\u201d The abundance is blocked, and it is called \u201cice.\u201d This is called \u201cmerit\u201d because he is rewarded. That means that the reason that causes the light of wisdom is called \u201cmerit,\u201d which is cause and consequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But \u201csons, life, and nourishment do not depend on merit, but on luck.\u201d This means that&nbsp;<em>Hochma<\/em>&nbsp;shines specifically through the middle line, where the&nbsp;<em>Hochma<\/em>&nbsp;is diminished, and specifically through the diminution, called&nbsp;<em>Masach de Hirik<\/em>. It follows that she does not shine with cause and consequence, meaning that&nbsp;<em>Hochma<\/em>&nbsp;shines through the left line, but precisely through diminution.
