A Commentary on the Psalm, \u201cFor the Winner over Roses\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I heard on&nbsp;<em>Adar Aleph<\/em>&nbsp;23, February 28, 1943<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor the winner,\u201d one who has already won.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over&nbsp;<em>Shoshanim<\/em>&nbsp;[roses], meaning the&nbsp;<em>Shechina<\/em>&nbsp;[Divinity], which concerns the inversion from mourning to a good day and&nbsp;<em>Sasson<\/em>&nbsp;[joy]. Since there are many states of ascents and descents, the descents are called&nbsp;<em>Shoshanim<\/em>, from the words \u201cblunt its&nbsp;<em>Shinaim<\/em>&nbsp;[teeth],\u201d the questions of the wicked should not be answered, but rather, \u201cBlunt its teeth.\u201d From the multiple beatings, meaning from many blunting of teeth, we come to roses. Hence, there are many discernments of&nbsp;<em>Sasson<\/em>&nbsp;in it, which is why it is spoken of in plural form, \u201croses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the sons of Korah, from the word&nbsp;<em>Karachah<\/em>&nbsp;[bald], meaning that the hair has gone bald.&nbsp;<em>Se\u2019arot<\/em>&nbsp;mean&nbsp;<em>Hastarot<\/em>&nbsp;[concealments], from the word&nbsp;<em>Se\u2019ara<\/em>[storm]. It is known that \u201cThe reward is according to the sorrow.\u201d This means that when there are&nbsp;<em>Se\u2019arot<\/em>, it is a place for work. And when corrected, hair comes over the storm, by way of \u201cThis is the gate to the Lord.\u201d When one has corrected all the storms, and has no more concealments, he has no room for work, and therefore has no place for reward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It follows that when a person comes to the state of&nbsp;<em>Korah<\/em>, he can no longer extend faith, called \u201cthe gate to the Lord.\u201d This is so because if there is no gate, he cannot enter the King\u2019s palace, since it is the foundation, since the entire structure is built on faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSons of Korah\u201d comes from the word&nbsp;<em>Bina<\/em>. They understood that&nbsp;<em>Korah<\/em>&nbsp;is considered left, from which Hell extends. This is why they wanted to continue their friendship from before, from the time they were in the form of \u201cLord, I heard the report of You, and I am afraid\u201d (<em>Zohar<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Beresheet<\/em>, 4:7). This means that with the strength they had extended from the past, they could endure the states and go from strength to strength. This is the meaning of \u201cthe sons of Korah did not die.\u201d That is, they understood that if they remained in a state of&nbsp;<em>Korah<\/em>, they would not be able to extend life, so they did not die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Maskil<\/em>&nbsp;[learned] a song of loves,\u201d meaning that they have learned that the measure of friendship with the Creator is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy heart overflows.\u201d The overflowing in the heart is by way of \u201cdoes not reveal from heart to mouth.\u201d This means that there is nothing to elicit from the mouth, which is only reception in the heart, as in whispered in the lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA good thing\u201d\u2014faith is called \u201ca good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI say, \u2018My work is for the king.\u2019\u201d When he receives the light of faith, he says, \u201cMy work is for the king,\u201d and not for myself. And then he is rewarded with \u201cMy tongue is the pen of a quick writer,\u201d when he is awarded the discernment of the written Torah, which is the language of Moses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou are more beautiful than the children of man,\u201d when he says to the&nbsp;<em>Shechina<\/em>&nbsp;that her beauty is from people, meaning from what people think of her, which is considered insignificant. Precisely from this, beauty is born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGrace is poured upon your lips.\u201d Grace belongs particularly to matters where praise cannot be said, but we still want that thing. Then we say that it is graceful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUpon your&nbsp;<em>Sefataim<\/em>&nbsp;[lips]\u201d means at the&nbsp;<em>Sof<\/em>&nbsp;[end].
