Law and Judgment \u2013 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u201cIf there is no advocate opposite the prosecutor, tell Jacob the words of law and judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should ask about the meaning of \u201cwords of law and judgment\u201d that we ask of him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should say that when a person wants to take upon himself to draw near the Creator, he promptly feels his own inferiority and lowliness, that he is constantly engaged in nonsense like the rest of the world, so why does he suddenly want the Creator to bring him closer more than his contemporaries? This seems like insolence on his part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the meaning of \u201cIf there is no advocate opposite the prosecutor,\u201d when the litigator begins to mention his sins and crimes, and the person cannot justify them, we ask, \u201cTell Jacob,\u201d meaning the point in the heart, which is regarded as&nbsp;<em>Akev<\/em>&nbsp;[heel], regarded as a&nbsp;<em>Mitzva<\/em>&nbsp;[commandment] that one tramples with one\u2019s feet, \u201cthe words of the law,\u201d for it is a law from Him that no outcast shall be outcast from Him. Thus, even the least of the least will draw near to the Creator. Why should it be so? It is a law.
