The excerpt below is taken from the portion&nbsp;<em>VaYikra<\/em>&nbsp;[The Lord Called], and discusses letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAsk for a letter from the Lord your God; ask either in the depth, or raise it above. What is the difference between the first generations and the last generations? The first generations knew and observed the high wisdom; they knew how to put together the letters that Moses was given in Sinai. &#8230;And we know that in the upper letters that extend from&nbsp;<em>Bina<\/em>, and in the lower letters that extend from&nbsp;<em>Malchut<\/em>, it is wise to conduct actions in this world.\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kabbalah.info\/eng\/content\/view\/full\/86306#anchor_edn1\"><\/a><a><\/a>[<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kabbalah.info\/eng\/content\/view\/full\/86306#f1\">1<\/a><\/strong>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where do letters come from? They come from the upper force. I must demand of the upper force to give me letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are \u201cletters\u201d? Letters are forms by which I turn my substance\u2014the will to receive, the ego\u2014into being similar to the upper force\u2014the power of love and giving. Each letter is a new form of giving that I have built within me, and in which I am somewhat similar to the upper force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I must put the letters that I receive together into \u201cwords,\u201d which are spiritual operations of transforming from one form to another, from the form of one letter to the form of another letter. When I perform such actions, it is as though I am \u201cspeaking\u201d with the upper force, and it is speaking with me. Thus, we have a common language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When such a \u201cconversation\u201d between me and the upper force takes place and I become capable of \u201clistening\u201d to its words, I become its partner and I acquire all of the high wisdom. This is how Baal HaSulam explains it in his essay, \u201cThe Teaching of the Kabbalah and Its Essence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kabbalah.info\/eng\/content\/view\/full\/86306#anchor_ednref1\"><\/a><a><\/a>[<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kabbalah.info\/eng\/content\/view\/full\/86306#1\">1<\/a><\/strong>] Zohar for All,&nbsp;<em>VaYikra<\/em>&nbsp;[The Lord Called], Item<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let us now approach the first reading of&nbsp;The Book of Zohar.
