1) \u201cJudges and officers shall you appoint.\u201d In this Mitzva<\/em> [commandment], He commands to appoint judges and officers, as it is written, \u201cBut God is the Judge, He puts down one, and lifts up another.\u201d This is because the count of Mem<\/em> (40) is Yod<\/em> [Yod<\/em>–Vav<\/em>–Dalet<\/em>] whose sum is 20. Afterwards, \u201cBut God is the judge.\u201d He puts down one\u2014Hey<\/em>–Hey<\/em> de<\/em> [of] HaVaYaH<\/em>\u2014and lifts up another\u2014Vav<\/em>–Vav<\/em> de<\/em> HaVaYaH<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentence is in three lines that serve as one. The right line leans toward Hesed<\/em>, and judges the world with Hesed<\/em> [mercy\/grace]. The left line leans toward Dinim<\/em> [judgments] and judges the world in Din<\/em> [judgment]. The middle line decides between them and sustains the illumination of both of them. However, it lowers the illumination of the left so it will shine only from below upwards. At that time, there are no Dinim<\/em> in it, and he lifts the illumination of the right so it will shine from above downwards, which is the light of GAR<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is written, \u201cBut God is the Judge.\u201d Ki<\/em> [but] is Mem<\/em> (40), since the word Ki<\/em> is 40 in Gematria<\/em>, since the sum of Yod<\/em> [Yod<\/em>–Vav<\/em>–Dalet<\/em>] is 20, since the letter Yod<\/em> of the word Ki<\/em> in its fullness, meaning Yod<\/em>, is twenty in Gematria<\/em>. And with the Chaf<\/em> of the word Ki<\/em>, it is forty in Gematria<\/em>. Mem<\/em> indicates the right line, Hesed<\/em>. After the right line\u2014implied in the word Ki<\/em>\u2014judges, God judges, meaning the left line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The right line, Ki<\/em>, judges the world in Hesed<\/em>, and the left line, Elokim<\/em>, judges the world in Din<\/em>. Following them comes the middle line, which is called \u201cThis,\u201d as it is written, \u201cHe puts down one\u201d [\u201cone\u201d is written as \u201cthis\u201d in Hebrew], Hey<\/em>–Hey<\/em>.
