A Gift"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Raba Hezia to Rav Hamnuna about prolonging his prayer. He said, \u201cWe leave the everlasting life and engage in transient life.\u201d RASHI interpreted \u201ceverlasting life\u201d as Torah, \u201ctransient life\u201d is for health, peace, and nourishment\u201d (Shabbat [Sabbath] 10a).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should interpret that \u201ctransient life\u201d is a&nbsp;<em>Mitzva<\/em>&nbsp;[commandment], which protects and saves when engaging in it. This is why it is called \u201ctransient life.\u201d \u201cEverlasting life\u201d means Torah, since it protects and saves even when one does not engage in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should understand that the meaning of&nbsp;<em>Mitzva<\/em>&nbsp;[commandment], which is faith, is only a correction, which is a temporary means. Conversely, Torah is a gift, which is the goal, and not the means to achieve the goal. The means are only transient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<em>Mitzva<\/em>&nbsp;is called \u201cwork\u201d; the reward is called the \u201cfruits\u201d obtained through the work, and fruits are regarded as Torah, which is the gift that one obtains through the work. The path of the work is called \u201cfaith,\u201d by which one obtains the quality of Torah, and the Torah itself is the gift that one obtains, which is the reward that one obtains after the completion of the work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Raba Hezia to Rav Hamnuna about prolonging his prayer.
