The 15th<\/sup> of Shevat<\/em> is Rosh<\/em> Hashanah<\/em> [New Year\u2019s Eve] for the trees. Rosh<\/em> Hashanah<\/em> is a time of sentencing for judgment or for mercy. The month of Shevat<\/em> is the fifth of the winter months, which is the Sefira<\/em> Hod<\/em>, a time of sentencing, meaning that at times he is in a state of Daveh<\/em> or Hod<\/em>. This is the meaning of \u201cfor judgment or for mercy.\u201d Although the Sefirot<\/em> begin with Hesed<\/em>, as it is written, \u201cFor I said, \u2018A world of Hesed<\/em> [mercy\/kindness] will be built,\u2019\u201d we must extend the Hesed<\/em> with the Hod<\/em>, and then there is the completion of the work. In other words, there is no completion of Hesed<\/em> until all five Kelim<\/em> [vessels] are filled. Only then is there the blessing of Hesed<\/em>, and then we are rewarded with eating the fruits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baal HaSulam said that we eat fruits on Rosh<\/em> Hashanah<\/em> for the trees because the whole difference between Kedusha<\/em> [holiness] and the Sitra<\/em> Achra<\/em> [other side] is in the fruits, as it is written in The Zohar<\/em>, \u201cAnother God is sterile and does not bear fruit,\u201d meaning that their source dries out and they do not bear fruits for blessing, which is multiplication in Torah and good deeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversely, one who walks on the path of Kedusha<\/em> always has fruits for blessing and always has multiplication in Torah and good deeds. This is done by extending the quality of Hesed<\/em> to the quality of Hod<\/em>. Hence, on the fifth month, which is the quality of Hod<\/em>, when the month is in full [moon], this is the beginning of the year for the trees, regarded as \u201ca fruit bearing tree.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The writing says about \u201ca fruit bearing tree,\u201d \u201cAnd God said, \u2018Let the earth put forth grass, plants yielding seed, fruit trees.\u2019\u201d RASHI interpreted that the taste of the tree should be as the taste of the fruit, but she [the earth] did not do so. Rather, \u201cAnd the earth put forth grass, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit,\u201d rather than \u201cfruit trees.\u201d Therefore, when Adam was cursed for his iniquity, she, too, was mentioned for her iniquity, as it is written, \u201cCursed is the ground because of you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interpreters asked, 1) How can it be said that the earth disobeyed the Creator? Can the earth choose? 2) Why was she not punished right away for disobeying the Creator, but was rather punished together with Adam HaRishon<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We should understand the above written in the work, the order that has been prepared for man to achieve the completion of the goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The earth is compared to man, as it is written in The Zohar<\/em>, \u201cThe core of the land are the sons of man.\u201d The purpose of creation was for man to engage in Torah and Mitzvot<\/em> [commandments] Lishma<\/em> [for Her sake], as it is written, \u201cAll that is called by My name, I have created for My glory,\u201d meaning to engage Lishma<\/em>, where all his actions are for the glory of the Creator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was interpreted in The Zohar<\/em>, \u201cAll that is called by My name is man, whom the Creator created in His name, as it is written, \u2018And God created the man in His image.\u2019\u201d We should ask, How can we speak of the image of the Creator? However, \u201cman\u201d means \u201cYou are called \u2018man,\u2019 and not the nations of the world,\u201d for all that they do, they do for themselves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
