Shet was in his image, after his own likeness, which was done in the correction of the body, the correction of the soul, in an upright manner, as it should be.

The serpent cast filth in Eve, and the filth was tumultuous in her abdomen and could not be depicted.

212. Before Adam sinned, the letters Aleph-Bet established in him and depicted in him in this world. When he reached Kaf, that the man was established in the garden in male and female in affection and high angels before them, the matter immediately upset Sam in the firmament, and he went down riding a strong serpent and appeared before him. Promptly, the letters became mixed.

213. At that time, Sam connected to the serpent and they became one. They took the letters and from then on made bad craft with the letters of “hunting game,” with the letters Tzadi [and final] Tzadi. They hunted them with evil enticement and made excessive craft with the letters Kof Reish, a craft of falsehood since they returned to invert the letters with an evil craft. The Kof could not stand since she has no legs, like a Kof [monkey] before a man has no existence. Reish, did Ra [evil]. These were inverted with evil craft until Adam and his woman fell.

214. They bore children with the letters Kof-Reish, but they were not sustainable. This is the filth that was swallowed in Eve. Cain was born from that filth, and this is why he became a murderer, since the craft of the serpent is murdering. And the letters were detained up to here.

215. When Adam repented and retuned to copulating with his Nukva as before, it is written, “And he begot in his image, after his own likeness.” This is because it is from the correction of the body and the spirit as it should be. It is also written, “There is Hevel [breath vapor/Abel] that is done on the earth,” and the letters returned to the beginning of Shin Tav, as it is written, “For God has Shat [appointed] for me another seed instead of Abel.”

Shet was in the first image and likeness; Cain and Abel were not. From here, the world was built in a different manner of Aleph-Bet. Keynan, Mehalelel, Yared. The letter Nun was added over Cain for Keynan, in order to correct what is twisted in Cain.

Image and likeness are garments of Mochin received from ZA and Malchut. The likeness is for the correction of the lights Nefesh-Ruach, which are received from ZA, and the image is for the correction of the body, which is received from Malchut. For this reason, Shet in his image, after his own likeness, was made in the correction of the body, which is the image, and in the correction of the soul, the likeness, in an upright manner, in the middle line, which does not lean to the right or to the left, but is rather straight.

As there are male and female in holiness, so there are male and female in the Sitra Achra. The male in the Sitra Achra is called Sam, and the female is called “serpent.” The difference between them is that the whole matter of the Sitra Achra is to grip the illumination of Hochma from Malchut on the left, and draw it from above downward.

The male, Sam, grips the light but does not draw it from above downward. Rather, after Sam has gripped the light, he connects with his female, the serpent, who draws it from above downward. If the serpent is not connected with Sam, the serpent cannot harm at all since it has nothing to draw downward.

This is why he went down riding a strong serpent, for if Sam were not connected and riding the serpent, who is his Nukva, he would not be able to do anything since he cannot bring his drawing downwards. Therefore, Sam connected to the serpent and they became one, and then they could draw the light from above downward, which is through enticing to the sin of the tree of knowledge.

Eating the tree of knowledge gave Sam the strength to grip the illumination of Hochma on the left in Malchut, which the serpent promptly drew from above downward. By this, he blemished the tree of life, the middle line, which guards the illumination of Hochma on the left so it is not drawn downward. By this he caused the death, since the separation of the tree of life from Malchut caused death to the world.

The serpent cast filth in Eve since the serpent that drew the light from above downward, in separation from the tree of life, cast filth in the light, in the fruit of the tree of knowledge, causing death through his drawing from above downward.

The filth was tumultuous in her abdomen and could not be depicted since after the filth of the serpent was swallowed in her, she could no longer be impregnated with a sustainable seed, since the form of the soul of life could not be depicted in her abdomen because that cause of death was tumultuous in her abdomen.

The twenty-two letters in each degree are twenty-two lights in special shapes, where from them and from their combinations all the kinds of light in that degree emerge and become revealed. Similar to the twenty-two letters in the book of wisdom, where all the concepts presented in the book of wisdom are revealed only through combinations of twenty-two letters, and twenty-two letters suffice for all the revelations in it, so are the twenty-two spiritual letters in the upper degrees.

Before Adam sinned, the letters of the Aleph-Bet were established in him and depicted in him in this world. Before he sinned in the tree of knowledge, the twenty-two spiritual letters in the illumination of his soul were corrected in him, to be joined and depicted in all kinds of revelations, to shine for him in this world.

When he reached Kaf, it is written, “one gold spoon of ten shekels, full of incense,” where through works and raising of MAN, he drew the receptacle, called “spoon,” to Malchut. After Malchut acquires that receptacle, she returns to being face-to-face with ZA, and everything that the lower one causes in the upper one, the lower one is also rewarded with it.

Hence, Adam, too, who was two Partzufim with eve, adhered to one another, have now been rewarded with parting from one another, from the adhesion of the posterior, and have become and were made into two Partzufim that could make a coupling face-to-face.

This is why when he got to Kaf, in which Adam was corrected in the garden in male and female with affection, meaning that by the man’s causing a Kaf for the Nukva of ZA through his actions, and to return her to face-to-face with ZA, he, too, was rewarded with being corrected alone with Eve, to be male and female face-to-face in love and affection.

Since Malchut connected with ZA face-to-face, the suckling of the Sitra Achra from Malchut stopped. Promptly, the matter upset Sam in the firmament because his suckling from Malchut had stopped, and he descended riding a strong serpent and appeared before him. Immediately, the letters were mixed. As soon as Adam saw them, the corrected combinations of holiness of letters became mixed and spoiled.

By this, it tells us a profound matter: The Sitra Achra does not come in a place of holiness. Also, holiness does not come in a place of the Sitra Achra. Hence, how could Sam and the serpent come to Adam and his woman, who were in holiness, and seduce them? However, it said “appeared before him,” meaning that at first, they could not approach him, but were seen by him. And since Adam did not reject them right away but looked at them, the holiness departed from him.

Promptly, the letters became mixed, meaning that the combinations of letters on which the holiness was revealed had departed from him, and then Sam and the serpent could approach him and clothe in him, and entice him into eating the tree of knowledge.

At that time, Sam and the serpent became one, and took the letters that were vessels for holiness into their own authority. From then onward, they made evil craft, drawing the Hochma from above downward, which is the opposite of the craft of holiness of the middle line, who corrected so that Hochma would shine only from below upward.

In the letters of “hunted game,” with the letters Tzadi [final] Tzadi, the two letters Tzadi [final]-Tzadi drew for the words “hunted game,” as they are the acronym of “hunted game” [in Hebrew]. They hunted them through evil luring since they hunted Adam and Eve with their evil enticement, so they would eat from the tree of knowledge, and caught them in their net.

From bad craft, which is drawing of Hochma from above downward, extends a craft of falsehood, when their actions are lies and falsehood since the light is not drawn from them downward, as they promise, because the light that is drawn from above downward spoils the craft of the middle line, which unites the left and the right with one another, and since the left has parted from the right, its lights freeze immediately and coolness and freezing and drawn to them.

It follows that their bad craft is a craft of falsehood, that they did not do anything with their deeds. The inversion of the light into freezing is implied in the letter Kof, which comes from the word Kipa’on [freezing]. After the light has frozen, evil judgments grip it and put the sinner to death, as it is written, “Sin crouches at the door.” That bad is implied by the letter Reish, which is the beginning of the word Ra [bad].

They made excessive craft with the letters Kof Reish, a craft of falsehood, which makes their craft extraneous, turning the letters of the alphabet to bad with the two letters Kof Reish, for the Kof implies that the light has become Kipa’on [freezing], and the Reish implies that it does Ra [evil]. You find that their craft is a craft of falsehood, that all their actions were falsehood and lies.

That was because they returned to inverting the letters with a bad craft. Because they did bad craft of drawing the light from above downward and separating the left from the right, the letters Kof Reish became freezing and bad.

Besides this one, there are two other intimations in the letter Kof, for the sinners. The first intimation is that it only has one leg extended downward. This indicates that there is no validity to their actions, since there is no persistence and subsistence on one leg.

The second intimation is that Kof [the letter, as well as “monkey”] implies the animal called “monkey,” which is similar to the face of a person. Also, that light that is extended from above downward, from left without right, is not similar to the real light, but rather like the similarity between the monkey and a human face.

After Adam repented and was purified from the filth of the serpent, and returned to copulating with his Nukva as before, it is written, “and begot in his image, after his own likeness,” meaning that the upper unification of right and left through the middle line has returned, and the coupling of ZA and Malchut has returned, and then he drew a likeness from ZA, which is the correction of the spirit, and drew an image from Malchut, which is the correction of the body.

Likeness and image correct the body and the spirit as they should be, so they are sustainable. It is written, “There is Hevel [mouth vapor/nonsense] which is done upon the earth.” Those who have no correction of the spirit are mere Hevel; they have no existence.

The letters returned to the beginning of Shin Tav since they remained and were not blemished, as it is written, “For God has Shat [appointed] for me another seed instead of Abel.” Shet was in a likeness and in an image, and the first ones, Cain and Abel, were not so. From here, the world was built in a different manner of the alphabet, in the order Tav-Shin-Reish-Kof [reversed order], which is Aleph-Bet in reverse.

211. “And begot a son in his image, after his own likeness, and named him Seth [Shet].” Others were not
