Rabbi Elazar and his father-in-law Rabbi Yosi were walking from Usha to Lod. Rabbi Yosi said to Rabbi Elazar, “Perhaps you heard from your father what is written, ‘And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him’?”

He said to him, “I heard from my father that those were the angels who accompanied him from the beginning, when he walked from the Land of Israel. And who are they? I do not know.” He said to him, “It is very well for you righteous that your mouth speaks like the crown of kingship on the king’s head.”

26. While they were walking, they reached the cave of Lod. They heard a voice saying “Make before me two fawns of a doe, and these were the holy camp that Jacob met before him.”

Rabbi Elazar was excited and regretted in his soul. Isaac was living at that time, but his holy soul was taken to the throne of his lord when he was tied on the altar. Since then, his eyes grew dim.

30. He said to him, “What are we there?” He said to him, “I and you are high angels to entertain with King David the messiah.” He arose.
