78- The War of the Inclination

The war of the inclination is internal and external. It is like a boxing match, where each one wants the other to surrender. In other words, he does not want to kill the other. At that time, the war is without clothing, but a war of strength: The one with more strength subdues the other.

Likewise, in the war of the inclination, there is no need to kill it. Rather, as our sages said, “One should not pray that the wicked will die, but that they will repent” (Berachot 10), meaning that it will surrender under the rule of the good inclination.
