The Kabbalah Experience: The Definitive Q&A Guide to Authentic Kabbalah

Who is a Friend?

Q: Whom can I regard as my friend?

A: The word, “friend” (Haver) stems from the word, “connection” (Hibur), unification. The connection is only possible if there is a resemblance in attributes, thoughts and actions. Thus, according to the equivalence of attributes, a friend can be nearer or farther. Your “friend” (Reacha) stems from the root Rea, which means “near.”
