Shamati (I Heard)

246. An Explanation about Luck

I heard on Sivan 7

The word “Luck” means something that is above the intellect. That is, even though it is reasonable that it would be so and so, his luck caused it.

By this we will understand what is written, “Sons, life, and nourishment do not depend on merit, but on luck.” It is known that all the influences come mainly from Hochma, called “left line.” Thus, it should have extended specifically from the left line. This is called “by merit.” And yet, all that extends from here is darkness.

Rather, it is precisely from the middle line, where the Hochma is diminished from GAR to VAK, and there is already the point of Hirik there. Hochmaextends precisely from here although it would make sense that Hochma should have been extended from the left line. Nevertheless, this is not the order. Instead, Hochma is extended specifically from the middle line, where there is diminution of Hochma.
