757. Toil
The Zohar, VaYechi: “He did not see iniquity in Jacob and did not see toil in Israel.” Yet, there is the quality of toil in Jacob nonetheless, but in Israel, it is even gone. A place where there is no iniquity because one engages in Torah and Mitzvot [commandments] is called “toil.” That is, they engage in Torah, which is regarded as reward and punishment. This is the quality of Jacob, Katnut [smallness/infancy].
However, in Israel there is not even toil, meaning they do not see or feel that they are exerting. Rather, everything is in private Providence. At that time, they are in degrees, that “He alone does and will do all the deeds.” Naturally, no toil is seen in them.
