747. In the Heat of the Day

“In the heat of the day.” Our sages said that the Creator took out the sun from her sheath so as not to trouble him with guests (Baba Metzia 86b).

In other words, after he was circumcised, he was rewarded with the revelation of the Creator to him, which is regarded as the Creator emerging from concealment to revelation. This is called “taking out the sun from her sheath.” Naturally, he had no room for work on choice, which is called Tircha [labor], meaning that Terah [Abraham’s father]—which is trouble and labor—begot Abraham.
