859. You Shall Increase Their Inheritance

“Among these the land shall be divided. …To the large you shall increase their inheritance, and to the small you shall diminish their inheritance; each shall be given their inheritance according to those who were numbered of them” (Numbers 26:53-54).

“To the large you shall increase their inheritance, and to the small you shall diminish.” That is, “large” means “right,” wholeness, greatness, concerning the greatness of the Creator and the wholeness of man. By having some grip on the work of the Creator, their inheritance will grow. There we need to increase their inheritance, meaning to give more time than the hours of his work.

“And to the small” means a lack, when one sees one’s lowliness, meaning that he has no Kelim [vessels], no Torah, and no work. This is called “left,” meaning a place of deficiency that requires corrections. “Diminish” means to allot little time for his work.
