662. Four Discernments in the Desire

There are four discernments in the desire:

1. Receiving in order to receive;

2. Bestowing, observing Mitzvot [commandments] in order to receive the next world as a reward;

3. Bestowing in order to bestow;

4. Wanting to receive pleasure in order to bestow because he wants the Creator to receive pleasure from him.

A corporeal will to receive means that he wants corporeal things. A spiritual will to receive means that he believes in the next world and in attaining the internality of the Torah, and wants everything out of self-love, meaning that through this, the will to receive, which wants to enjoy, will have what to enjoy.
