227. In Katnut, Gevurot Appear First

In Katnut [smallness/infancy], Gevurot [judgments] appear first, and then Hassadim [mercies]. In Gadlut [greatness/adulthood], Hassadim appear first and then Gevurot.

Katnut is called “the beginning of the work.” A person begins in Gevurot, meaning in Hitgabrut [overcoming], and then he is rewarded with Hassadim. In Gadlut, once he has entered the King’s palace, which is called Hassadim, he searches for work, to have what to do, since he suffices for Hassadim and finds no deficiency in himself, so it is the time for Gevurot.
