364. All Who Are Violent, Prevail – 1

“All who are violent, prevail.” “If your wife is short, bend down and whisper to her” (Baba Metzia 59a).

In the work of the Creator on the path of truth, when one comes to take upon himself the burden of the kingdom of heaven above reason, there is no intellect there that he will be able to understand with his mind the benefits of accepting the work in order to bestow. Rather, “All who are violent,” meaning that only by force can one subdue, and not with the mind.

This is so because when one has some reasoning that approves of doing this, it is already regarded as within reason. Hence, there must not be any intellect in this, only force. From this stems the judgment, in corporeal judgment, among people, it also happens that courthouses give the verdict, “All who are violent prevail.”

But why must one’s work be above reason? It is the reality. Since man is created with the Kli [vessel] of a body called “will to receive,” the body cannot do anything against the will to receive. Therefore, he works within reason, and this is a sign that he is deceiving himself with respect to the truth. For this reason, he thinks that it is reason that obligates him to this.
