“Do not say in your heart… ‘Because of my righteousness… to inherit the land,’ but it is because of the wickedness of the nations that the Lord is dispossessing them. … It is not for your righteousness or the integrity of your heart that you are going to inherit their land, but it is because of the wickedness of the nations that the Lord is driving them out before you, which the Lord swore to your fathers” (Deuteronomy 9:4-5).

We should ask: If the Creator is giving the land because of the wickedness of the nations and not because of the righteousness of Israel, does it mean that were it not for the wickedness of the nations, the Creator would not give the land to Israel? The answer is as Baal HaSulam said concerning “Know for certain,” that they give the need for the inheritance of the land.
